We Americans are in a no win desperate situation, a world of shit, no paddle. The floundering corporate "democrats" and our rigged corrupt system, enshrined by the founders, and our rigged supreme court, have allowed fascism to advance, flourish and threaten all of us. over the last 8 years (and probably longer). Tragically, the dems have sold out to big money. They haven't had a coherent strategy of real governance in a long time. I'm scared. We need to give our very lives to save our country and STAND UP by the millions, all over the world now, or we will give up our lives to death or slavery. I don't believe I am overstating it .
Your comment about current "entertainment" culture was also important. I have only seen the promos for the films and tv shows coming out, but wow, what a picture of the world they paint!
The last time I was in a theater, the promos for future movies before the flick I went to see were chilling as Hell: one mass homicidal dehumanizing and sadistic shit show after another....

In the late 1960s and 1970s, Irish Republicans were warning that the United Kingdom was becoming a fascist state, or already was a fascist state. (Note that in this context Republican translates essentially to “Marxist who believes that Ireland should become one united socialist democratic republic.”)
