I just discovered I could respond to your response. Honestly I don't remember whatever I disagreed about. My head is not screwed on right but it's OK enough to follow today's terrifying positions on just about everything. I'm very grateful for your elucidating with such frank clarity the misunderstanding of terms like Fascism, Socialism, Communism and many other relevant. And boldly calling out the American perpetrators and lame cowards in high places who refuse to confront the evil wrapping it's tentacles around us.

The last time that I was in China, for Chinese New Year I made a point to ask friends, family, and folks I’d met on nature walks what they thought about the Trump/Pence fascist regime. Then in the forth year occupying the White House, Trump’s nickname, translated from Mandarin back to English is something between “don’t mess with “ and “pig poo”. In spite of my broken Mandarin I was able, most of the time to gain a thread of meaningful conversation about the neofascist US. It was very easy to connect the dots between a Chuan Pu the fascist, US capitalist/imperialism, and US military hegemony. The ~10%~, Chinese MAGA, probably because of my lack of fluency, were difficult to comprehend. One case may have been a mixture of fawning wealth along with patriarchy/misogyny and another a case of wishful thinking, that US capitalism might decline faster under such circumstances. Both of those instances had a significant under toe feeling much like the MAGA thugs, proud boys, and looney cosplayers-for-Trump trying in vain to protect the Hollywood Blvd. star that had Trump’s name on it but nowhere remotely as violent or hateful.

Your review is very well received and I look forward to reading Jeff Sharlet’s book. Clearly, we need to say no nuclear war, “It’s this system, not humanity, that needs to become extinct.”

Paul, This is the first offering of yours that I fervently disagree with. I'm originally Canadian, moved here Tucson, AZ, as an adult, not knowing much American history, but more informed 50 years later. It looks to me that the south (Confederates) actually won the Civil War and had, have never truly surrendered to the dismal democrats then or now. Unless an enormous pushback of Americans, willing to lose their lives for the cause ASAP (today! ) I think we have probably lost the fight. Not that we shouldn't keep fighting but are many of us be willing to give their lives, really?
