Until this country pares down by about 90% and stops the worship and glorification of the biggest death and destruction machine ever-the US Military and its accompanying Industrial Complex that provides the tools of death and destruction NOTHING WILL CHANGE. We are a country saturated with the glorification of death and destruction. . . and it shows.

Just keep in mind that the military empire is in service to the underlying capitalist-imperialist order. I agree on "country saturated with the glorificiation of death and the destruction." The dominant media and here especially its "entertainment" wing, is deeply culpable here!

Truth- our entire country is based on violence to make a few very wealthy. Violence against the poor , those with dark skin , those that are not white Christian supremacists. And , violence against all ecosystems. There is a song in the play Hadestown- Why we build the wall- that sums up much of our system. “ We build the wall to keep out the enemy , and the enemy is poverty “. Keep speaking the truth.

What will it take? I love the idea of shutting it all down. One week. Then another if necessary. No work. France is setting a wonderful example.

It's like the joke: "How many Ivy league policy analysts and designers does it take to get Human rights and accountability right" ? Answer: can't be done!

"The real shit" is delivered by Paul Street once again, the unadulterated truth that it's the system of predatory capitalism that's the driving force of our social, civic and biological misery. Total systemic change is clearly the only real solution, but species homo sapiens, the so-called "wise apes," are obviously not up to the task, so Pacha Mama is doing the job for us by shutting herself down and taking us with her into oblivion. How Long? Only Pacha Mama knows, and she ain't telling! Somewhere along the path to extinction we could possibly wise up collectively and learn to see the world rightly, but it's doubtful. Watching the police beat Tyre to death made me realize just how right Marx was with his prediction that in time, capitalism would self destruct. The signs are everywhere. The killing in Memphis is just one of many. As the great Chambers Bros rock band crooned over 50-years ago, "The time has come today!"

Love that song, and how appropriate! There is another alternative to "Pacha Mama shutting herself down," though, that could possibly revive Pacha Mama: real, all the way revolution to pull up the roots of capitalist imperialism and build a society aimed at eliminating classes. Do check out The RNL (Revolution Nothing Less) Show on YouTube and especially their recent interviews with Bob Avakian. The time has come, now it's on us to make the most of it.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, Chris Hedges is another great writer who sees the situation whole, pointing out often and eloquently, the only real alternative is: REVOLT!

All true, however, how to start? Change is often forced in other western countries by 3rd parties that hold the balance of power. Take an egregious example, Israel. A fascist minority 3rd party is dictating the agenda. Well it can happen the other way around with a progressive 3rd party in the US demanding reforms or the party in power will not be able to govern. It's too difficult? Tried before without success? It's unlikely to succeed right now? Well how likely is a full blown revolution? What if an effort to create a 3rd progressive party had started 20 years ago?

full blown revolution....thank you. An existential necessity at this point.

I hear you! Pigs are intelligent, social animals, the opposite of the Gang in Blue. But, as Paul said, there's so much rich, powerful history in that name.
