Most of this particular essay is long quotes from others. That's generally discouraged but it felt right in this case and anyway it was all I had this morning. Avakian I think is dead on correct: it's not about running for POTUS ffs, it's about organizing for an actual revolution
Paul, I gotta give it to you for punching back at the saint-like picture being painted of Carter. He presided over and served this empire. He inflicted the system on billions of people. Yes he went to church. He taught Sunday school. He pushed human rights in the process of fronting for exploitation and oppression. I will never get the picture out of my head of him welcoming the Shah.
He was the POTUS when I was getting introduced to Marxism as an undergrad...a nice real time case study in the bipartisanship of US capitalism-imperialism.
He was my first POTUS vote 2 weeks after turning 18. I've grown since. The Kings and Queens control We Peasants, and most enjoy their rule. Around 30 I learned...
Every single country has the exact type of government that the people deserve to have.
Four international crimes the U.S. carried out during the Carter Administration: https://revcom.us/en/ugly-reality-jimmy-carters-presidency. "The point is this: whatever Carter’s personal beliefs, anyone who rises to the top of this capitalist-imperialist system MUST initiate and enforce truly monstrous crimes."
Chris Hedges wrote a fine antidote to the mainstream canonization of Carter on December 30. Your report adds some specifics and includes Avakian’s comments. All well done.
I’ve been waiting for this expose. When both Trump and Biden sing Carter’s praises, that’s a good indication of which side he was on (not on the side of the oppressed). I knew the PSR would fill in the blanks in my memory with solid details. Thanks, Paul.
Paul does not need my testimony or commentary, but I am older than he and have lived through all of this. I am a historian and much else and I have lived many years in Latin America, including in Central America, but also more elsewhere in Latin America. All of this is true, and perhaps, one could say even worse than his relatively brief commentary but excellent commentary can detail. I know what he is talking about and have to some significant extent had experience in the places he is talking about. Like the t-shirts that say, "Born in the USA but raised..." in many places. This is not simply intellectual chatter or commentary, this is grave reality that countless are still suffering and dying.
People are people.... they've never met me, so why hate me?..."
I'm always curious how some individuals are able to look in their mirror. Humans can justify pretty much anything. Everyone's upset with the Israeli army killing innocent Palestinians. HELLO, where were you nearly 50 plus ago during Vietnam? Too young? Where were you 20 years ago during the Middle East horrors? Still too young? Where were you when the Supreme Court was bought by the wealthy, or we allowed a criminal to become POTUS, not once but twice. Tis' okay, because it'll be against the law according to our Constitution, for Congress to allow the transfer of power to a treasoness individual. But, guess what? The majority of you don't give a fuck and it will happen. And idiots wonder why crime is with us when a person gets 5 years for pot, and a wealthy dude gets to play POTUS for rape, stealing from a children's Charity, lying on tax forms, lying on business dealings, etc. etc. etc....

History, it's a school far too many haven't attended.
Lest it be forgotten, former Congressman Pete Hegseth is an accused statutory rapist. I doubt he'll ever face charges. It's a two tier legal system now: laws for the ruled and immunity for the rulers.
And We Peasants seem to wash, rinse, repeat every 2 years, sadly. It's a good thing we're a Democracy and not a Monarchy run by the Kings and Queens.... LMAO
i honestly had no idea!. I'm originally Canadian, with parents who had no interest in politics at all. I was in nursing school and coming to the lobby with myMD fianee, I asked why so many were sitting and watching TV. He told nme JFK had been killed and I said "who was he?".
Still I remained ignorant until a boyfriend 30 years later was an Earth Firster and I began to learn. It wasn't ti I was in My early 70's before I realized the current manifestation of government malfeasance and have continued to observe the big picture, but mainly the terrible parts the USA has initiated all over the world undercover of "bringing democracy" Despicable since the beginning! No surprise having been the child of Britain ! Thanks for exposing Carter!
Thank you for the much needed history lesson, Dr. Street. For some reason (I can't imagine why) that section was missing from my New York Times. The dog must have ate (or eaten if you want to be persnickety about it!) it.
Will China's rise to world power replace international relations Realism (George Keenan) with Idealism perhaps finally bringing to a belated conclusion the U. S.'s 80 years of bloodshed and bullying?
Meanwhile Trump will con-vince his "low information"MAGA "ditto head" followers (subordinate authoritarians) to follow their dominant authoritarian "dear leader" into eliminating the federal minimum wage ("because you are too smart to have the 'nanny state' tell you what to do and how much to earn...").
At this point the capitalist class offers to sell the now totally destitute American working class a rope to hang itself with on concession and with usorious interest, of course. Which the survivors of the now dead American working class will spend the remainder of their lives trying to pay off to the bankers. Hey! What could possibly go wrong???
There you go again PS - with all of the praise going around for the former POTUS, you go ahead and spoil it all by telling the truth about his presidency - keep up the good work.

You think the masses of struggling and hard working people and children deserve authoritarian class rule and imperial governments? Seriously?

The Jimmy Carter who emerged after his presidency is the kind needed in the White House, not the Jimmy Carter while he was president.
The Jimmy Carter who learned a lesson and tirelessly traveled the USA to educate the citizens about the horrific deeds our hired help in DC commit?
