Did you hear or see Trump threaten the Governor of Maine with cuts of funding over trans sports issues? Never thought I would see that belligerence exposed beyond campaign rallies.
I appreciate one of your opening points regarding “atomization” or missing the connection of fascism by playing wac-a-mole trying to go issue-to-issue.
A coup attempt in the absence of a mass movement would likely end up rearranging the deck chairs in the Fuhrer bunker. Also we can look at Turkey and Erdogan.
Once a mass movement is up and running its a different ball game. In that case the regime might fall via a coup but the movement would have to not allow the coup to consolidate it's rule, however it presented itself.
Sorry but anyone who thinks this administration is a materially different incarnation of fascism (“fusion of state and corporate power”) than the previous administration is an idiot or a fantasist, or both. Only in the bubble of left activists and Deep State apologists does this fantasy get any traction. The people voted for this because they wanted it and they got what they wanted. Stop thinking the voters are clueless rubes and you’re the sacred illuminati. You’re not. So stop acting like butthurt losers and start forming an effective opposition that addresses what people actually care about, not your pet political crusades. Get out of this fantasy space and go to talk to the real people who voted for Trump, find out what they want by actually asking them, break the elite stranglehold on the Democratic Party so it’s actually capable of nominating someone who listens to the people rather than the billionaire funders and the activist fringe. Then you might win in 2026 and 2028. Otherwise, you will lose, and it will be due to your own arrogance.
This is not about Trump’s agenda. This is about the departure from our constitutional order. This administration is acting unilaterally and unlawfully through executive orders. The moment Trump called for the impeachment of federal judges and refused to adhere to court orders we entered authoritarian rule. You’re absolutely correct that Biden also attempted to push through agenda items through executive orders. When the judiciary objected he adhered to court orders and maintained the rule of law. The details are inconsequential. All that matters is the oath these people took to uphold and defend the constitution. Once that oath is broken we no longer live in a democracy and this should concern all of us regardless of who you voted for.
On the executive orders: Controversy over this got going under Obama. After Republicans won the House, the party was able to carry out it's policy of total obstruction of anything Obama tried to do legislatively. Executive orders, controvery and court battles were the result. Biden ended up in a similar situation.
This thing with Trump is on a whole other level. His party controls Congress. These orders are about cementing Presidential rule claiming justification by the unitary executive theory.
Sorry but anyone who spews this “fusion of state and corporate power” diversion is a fascist shill. Here's where fascism differs from the usual bourgeois democracy:
"Fascism is not just a gross combination of horrific reactionary policies. It is a qualitative change in how society is governed. Fascism foments and relies on xenophobic nationalism, racism, misogyny, and the aggressive re-institution of oppressive “traditional values.” Fascist mobs and threats of violence are unleashed to build the movement and consolidate power. What is crucial to understand is that once in power fascism essentially eliminates traditional democratic rights.
"Fascism has direction and momentum. Dissent is piece by piece criminalized. The truth is bludgeoned. Group after group is demonized and targeted along a trajectory that leads to real horrors. All of this [took] dramatic leaps under the Trump Regime. History has shown that fascism must be stopped before it becomes too late."
The "corporations" in Mussolini's formulation were not capitalist business enterprises. They were sectors of Italian society being organized for control purposes by the regime.
The fascists did of course specialize in repressing workers and peasants on behalf of capitalists and landowners. The regime itself was a form of bourgeois dictatorship. That's not what Mussolini was talking about in his formulation though. Like the Nazi's, the Italian fascists denounced bourgeois society at various points, and especially bourgeois liberalism.
State and corporate power have been fused in various ways for a long time in the US. What is different is palingenetic (national rebirth) nationalism; open declarations of enmity-- with policy follow throughs-- towards large sections of the population by the the government; Seizure of power by the executive vs the constitutional role of the other branches; Threatening other countries to seize various advantages-- and possible conquest of territory down the road; other stuff I can't think of right now.

This "leaderless" stuff makes it easy for good causes like 50501 to get attacked by cointelpro rumor tactics.

It's all a package-- not just a bunch of policies in isolation. Also look what's happening at the state level.
