When your country has dropped several times the tonnage of all bombs dropped during WW2 a couple times over, has allied with ex-Nazis, military dictators, and authoritarians the world over, has used state power to assassinate multiple reformist leaders (MLK, JFK), and the levers of power are run by billionaires and corporations heading up an unprecedented military, police, and intelligence state - well, you might already BE fascist. The cows left the barn a while back. Having a blue 'Liberal' party is entirely compatible with being fascist.
I hope that Substack readers are catching up with the fact that the lions' share of my writing has been radical critique of the dismal dollar-drenched neoliberal capitalist-imperialist Dems and that I see them as a "Weimar Party" that is deeply complicit (t say the least) in US fascisation. That said, the Dems are are still attached to the established if fading US version of the institutions of what Marxists have long called bourgeois democracy. The other ruling class party has broken with that and has crossed into neofascist space. Zero love for the Dems here but there's more than "a dime's worth of difference" between the two dominant ruling class parties. I imagine a more fully fascist USA could keep the blue opposition around for show's sake, sure. I agree that the paths to this nightmare go far back and are multiple. For crying out loud, we have a "news" network that can literally instigate denigration attacks against metropolitan cities in which colored people live, and from that, a small step to attacks directly against minorities, and there are ZERO repurcussions on the Murdoch clan that runs it.

I call it "a nativist privilege" preference; the DNC is not allowed to reign in the fascist freak flag.....they use many terms: "they go low we go high" (so high, that you can't see out of the clouds), etc etc. it's a dirty business, Murican politics. I was appalled to see that the US Gov could actually call for pogroms on the "Gyna" community.....and lo behold...crime against Chinese Americans started skyrocketing. Icing on the cake: the people complicit in the "hard right" of the admin doing "pogrom ops" are in "the lobby". What can you say bout this country? Wow.
