Thanks, Paul, for noting what most correspondents have ignored. I am old enough to remember the lethalities of Mussolini and Hitler's fascism and the apathy that allowed their raise. Of course,"those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." But, all who consciously ignore this parallel, deserve to be doubly loathed.

Good points on evasiveness. Your scribe on Your uncle at the table was Street smarts at its best. Concise and direct-a good organizing method.

Your energy is impressive, but a real pause is what Dr. Feelgood might suggest for continued success.

Happy, Heathy New Years!

Dear Paul,

I agree with you that the January 6 insurrectionists, and the Republican Party in general, are fascists. But I am not sure that the January 6 Committee actually "bent over backward to avoid the F-word," as you say, as though they made great efforts to avoid that word. I find it quite plausible that the committee is not very consciously aware of the presence of fascism or racism, if they themselves are somewhat fascistic and racist. Those words rarely enter their perceptions, their analyses, their thinking, and they wouldn't have to make any effort to avoid those words. In fact, it would take some effort for them to use those words. If you ask them "isn't this fascism or racism," they might reply, "oh, that idea hadn't occurred to me, I don't usually think in those terms, I'd have to give that some thought."

And the Republicans are not much worse than the Democrats. Look at Biden's long history.

All of the USA's many, many, many wars are bipartisan. Carl von Clausewitz said war is "a continuation of political intercourse carried on with other means." I don't accept that, and I'm sure you don't either, but it appears to me that most members of congress in both parties do. They consider it normal to go to war whenever that might be profitable. That might explain why members of congress are not eager to prosecute anyone for that little kerfuffle on 1/6/ '21.

What is a Nazi, after all? It is someone who wants to restore control of society to the people who =should= be in control -- the worthy people, the deserving people, the people with a glorious past and future, the successful (and therefore superior) people, the people who God obviously prefers.
