Before reading what I write below, please look back at this commentary of mine (“High Fash Court Grants the Orange Hitler Fan a Big Win”) from last week.
Okay, good.
So here’s the latest bursting of liberal, progressive, and moderate bubbles on how the prosecutorial and judicial system is/was supposedly going to save us from a second and worse fascist Trump administration. The Christian Fascist Supreme Court has just this morning quite predictably ruled that — sorry, Laurence Tribe — states cannot in fact keep the fascist demagogue and wannabe strongman-for-life Donald “Take Down the Metal Detectors” Trump off the federal presidential ballot:
“Trump prevails in Supreme Court challenge to his eligibility. Here’s the latest….The Supreme Court ruled on Monday that former President Donald J. Trump should remain on Colorado’s primary ballot, rejecting a challenge to his eligibility for another term that could have upended the presidential race by taking him off ballots around the nation…Though the justices offered different reasons, the decision was unanimous. All of the opinions focused on legal issues, and none took a position on whether Mr. Trump had engaged in insurrection. All of the justices agreed that individual states may not bar candidates for federal office under a constitutional provision, Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, that bars insurrectionists from holding office. Four justices would have left it that.” (Adam Liptack, New York Tmes, today).
They ruled as expected that “the Constitution makes Congress rather than the states responsible for enforcing Section 3 against federal officeholders and candidates.”
I am aware that beneath the unanimity of the ruling, the Court’s three liberal justices accused the Republi-fash majority of going (a) beyond the specifics of the case and (b) out of its way to dangerously insulate insurrectionists from disqualification for the presidential ballot. And apparently, Amy Coney-Barrett refused to sign on with the overreach.
Great, but so what? The ruling is unsurprising on legal grounds but it is yet another gift to the fascist Hitler fan Donald “Poisoning Our Blood” Trump from the bourgeois legal system. Previous and ongoing ones include federal Trumpist hack judge Aileen Cannon’s successful delay of his federal trial over his criminal handling of classified documents, the excessive complexity and current alleged corruption of the state level election interference case in Georgia, and the Supreme Court’s decision to hear Trump’s dangerous and preposterous case for presidential immunity from prosecution for January 6 on the late date of April 22nd this year. Previous gifts include the US Senate’s egregious failure to convict Trump for clearly inciting insurrection in 2021 and US Attorney General Merrick Garland’s long delay in appointing a special prosecutor to investigate Trump for trying to subvert and cancel the 2020 presidential election.
At some point soon, the high Court will likely please Donald “Clean Out the Marxist Vermin” Trump by narrowing the scope of his coming belated January 6 trial.
Today’s ruling is a nice little political gift for the aspiring dictator one day before Super Tuesday. His campaign is eating it up, reveling in how a Trump-created Supreme Court is helping stem the supposed “radical left Deep State” assault on the great People’s Champion Donald “I am the Chosen One Who Alone Can Fix it” Trump.
Not that Donald “I am Your Retribution” Trump needed much political help. The bumbling warmonger “Genocide Joe” Biden trails the orange-tinted fascist by five points (48-43) in the latest national New York Times-Siena College poll:
“With eight months left until the November election, Mr. Biden’s 43 percent support lags behind Mr. Trump’s 48 percent in the national survey of registered voters. Only one in four voters thinks the country is moving in the right direction. More than twice as many voters believe Mr. Biden’s policies have personally hurt them as believe his policies have helped them. A majority of voters think the economy is in poor condition. And the share of voters who strongly disapprove of Mr. Biden’s handling of his job has reached 47 percent, higher than in Times/Siena polls at any point in his presidency.”
Less than a quarter (23 percent ) of Democratic primary voters “said they were enthusiastic” about Mr. Biden — “half the share of Republicans who said they were about Mr. Trump. Significantly more Democrats said they were either dissatisfied or angry at Mr. Biden being the leader of the party (32 percent) than Republicans who said the same about Mr. Trump (18 percent).”
This is quite ominous for Biden, especially when it is recalled that the right-tilted Electoral College effectively requires the Democratic candidate to beat his or her Republican opponent by at least 4 points in the national popular vote to gain or keep the White House. Biden trails Donald “Dictator for a Day” Trump in all of the small handful of states that absurdly determine presidential election outcomes under the archaic Electoral College.
It’s all coming down to the election — an election in which Trump’s chances appear so far to have been BOOSTED and NOT WORSENED by the numerous legal cases against him.
And on top of all that an army of Republifascists who outwardly believe the multiply disproven Hitlerian Leviathan Lie that the 2020 president election was stolen are gearing up to suppress and distort the 2024 vote in the favor of their Dear Leader, who Noam Chomsky aptly called “the most dangerous criminal in human history” in January of 2020.
If all this doesn’t suffice to re-install Herr Trump’s Nazi ass back in the world’s most dangerous office by “constitutional” means, MAGA will likely take their ongoing civil war to an entirely new and bloody level.
It’s probably better for Biden that the Court ruled against Colorado today: the Trump campaign would have garnered a huge fundraising and polling boon if it had gone the other way and 20-plus Republi-fascist states would have rapidly moved to remove Biden from their presidential ballots. The drift to civil war would have escalated significantly.
It’s all so Weimar. One by one the saviors that the MSNBC crowd, liberals, centrists, and many progressives foolishly think can save us from fascism within the boundaries of the bourgeois-imperial system — the non fascist and anti-Trump Republicans, the dismal Dems, the corporate media, the Congress, the courts, the White House, the business class, the foreign policy establishment — are falling by the wayside. Welcome to what I last month called “The US Bourgeois Democracy Farewell Tour.”
It’s not for nothing that more than 40 people responded in the affirmative when I recently asked Facebook friends if they have or are starting to work up “an expatriation plan.”
I’m thinking about one myself though my current commitment is to stay in this country to fight back against Trumpism-fascism by any and all means necessary if that’s what it comes down to.
I have been watching this fascist horror unfold since Goldwater '64. Sensed it from my first day in kindergarten back in '53. Been influenced, enlightened by such as Hannah Arendt, inverted totalitarianism, Wilhelm Reich, character analysis of fascists repressed perverted sexuality, Hunter Thompson, indefatigable chronicler warning us and exposing them. At 75 I will continue to fight them. None of the people in my life, there are precious few now. will talk to me any more. They talk about nothing but themselves, gossip, blame the Blacks, the Jews, the Russians, the Muslims the immigrants for their discontent. I know which side they are on now. It is heart breaking. I am alone with my thoughts now until I die. They don't even call to see how I'm doing, come around to see if I need any help. That's OK, it makes my stronger. All because I challenge their world view. Never been violent. They have all been brainwashed. They think they are free. I believe you will stick around comrade Paul to fight the good fight. I was never a patriot so I could never be an expatriot. A refugee perhaps but not at this age. Discretion is the better part of valor said the poet. The Eternal Rebel.
Depressing, but thanks Paul.
