"I'm Ready to Work with Trump"

Numerous “progressive Democrats” (there’s an oxymoronic phrase) I know tell me that Kamala Harris lost to the despicable orange-hued fascist Donald Trump because she went around campaigning with the neoconservative never-Trumper Republican Lynn Cheney instead of with the “progressive” labor leader Shawn Fain, president of the United Auto Workers (UAW).

The way the “progressive” Dem story goes, Harris’s fate was sealed when Tony West, her brother-in-law and Uber’s chief legal counsel, told her to drop Fain as a campaign asset.

“Progressive Dems” tell this tale as part of a broader narrative about how the Harris campaign dropped the ball by following the advice of corporate consultants including West and former Obama campaign chair David Plouffe: “ditch working-class economic populism and run instead with how Trump represents a threat to democracy and decency.”

I have no idea if there is any merit to this claim but it strikes me as highly dubious. The main things that cost the dismal imperialist Democrats the White House last November were their criminal sponsorship of Israel’s genocidal war of ethnic cleansing in Gaza, “Genocide Joe” Biden’s obvious decrepitude (as well as criminality), Biden’s absurdly belated stand down from the Democratic presidential nomination, the desire of numerous corporate and financial donors for tax cuts and deregulation, the savage racism and sexism of millions of Americans, and the last-minute candidate Harris’s serious lack of public appeal and charisma.

As for Fain, he recently showed how “progressive” he is by welcoming the fascist president back into power with a Washington Post Op Ed titled “I’m President of the UAW: We’re Ready to Work With Trump.”

So what if Trump is a deranged and malignant fascist, eco-cidal, racist, nativist, and sexist maniac spearheading a many-sided movement and program for the authoritarian Christian white nationalist takeover and makeover of US government and society and the final conversion of the planet into a giant Greenhouse Gas chamber?! So what if Trump is getting ready to take immediate steps to:

· Initiate a racist mass deportation program

· “End birthright citizenship”

· Pardon hundreds of fascist putschists

· Escalate planet-cooking oil and gas drilling and fracking amidst an epic climate catastrophe that has just burned down vast swaths of Los Angeles County.

· Insanely slash numerous environmental regulations

· Attack gay and transgender rights

· …more awful fascist shit….?

So what if Trump is going to viciously and fascistically attack millions of brown-skinned human beings, sadistically labelled as “illegals” because they are trying to escape Hellish conditions produced by US imperialism?

So what if Trump said this to the world’s richest capitalist parasite Elon Musk, his top backer, last August: “You’re the greatest cutter. I look at what you do. You walk in and say, ‘You want to quit?’ I won’t mention the name of the company but they go on strike and you say, ’That’s OK. You’re all gone.'”

That comment actually led Fain to file documents with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) charging that Trump and Musk had interfered with workers who may want to exercise their right to join a union. “Both Trump and Musk want working class people to sit down and shut up, and they laugh about it openly,” Fain said!

Who cares? Not the great “working-class leader” Shawn F’ng Fain. This grand proletarian “progressive” is down with Mein Trumpf because he foolishly thinks Trump’s promise to enact sweeping tariffs will “serve the national and working-class interest” by sparking a revival of US manufacturing.

Here we are five months after Fain went to the NLRB with charges against Trump (who Fain called a “scab”) later and the running dog imperialist Fain says that Trump will “serve the national and working-class interest.”!

“The national and working-class interest”! That’s the same gross labor-aristocratic mindset that helped align Western labor movements with the disastrous First World War, which slaughtered millions of European and American workers.

Fuck this Fain guy very much!

He’s completely full of shit if he seriously thinks Trump’s promised tariffs will help US working people. They will monkey-wrench supply chains vital to US manufacturing in a massively globalized economy. They will significantly increase basic consumer prices as retailers naturally pass on the increased import costs to the nation’s working-class majority purchasers.

But what if Fain didn’t have his economic head up his ass? What if Trump’s tariffs really were good for autoworkers, “the [US-American] working-class,” and US manufacturing?

If all that were so, would that justify a labor “leader” saying he is “ready to work” with – to repeat – a deranged and malignant fascist, eco-cidal, racist, nativist, and sexist maniac spearheading a many-sided movement and program for the authoritarian Christian white nationalist takeover and makeover of US government and society and the final conversion of the planet into a giant Greenhouse Gas chamber?!

No it would not!

For all his “progressive” pretense, Shawn Fain is just another boot-licking capitalist-imperialist pure-and-simple business-unionist for whom the only thing that matters is how many crumbs strategically placed US-Amerikan workers can eat off the table of their parasitic bourgeois masters, the rest of humanity and livable ecology be damned.

Shawn Fain is a lowlife Vichy Democrat with his stupid economistic head up the ass of the new Amerikaner Fascism.
