An excellent, thorough analysis of what is happening at the Texas border! There should be more coverage of this important issue in the corporate media.

I am a white, mature US-American, born in the Midwest, raised in a white, segregationist culture, and still white. BUT, I speak Spanish, am married to a woman of color from Central America, and am the father (adoption) and grandfather of beautiful brown "Americans," all of whom speak English. My wife has her education from a Central America university, my wife the daughter of a typical farm worker and a homemaker with a doctorate from a Spanish university whonow teaches US children in public schools. I might say the best years of my life were lived in Latin America and I, too, speak Spanish. This "white" man born in the heart of what was largely "Republican" Indiana am as "Latin" now in my heart as I am US-American. It is a wonderful feeling and a wonderful way of life. I know many southern neighbors who are immigrants from Latin America. We need them, they work in construction, childcare, elder care, building and home maintenance, and many speak multiple languages, have professional jobs and are contributing immensely to the welfare of people in the US. Thanks goodness they are here. Right on! Paul, let's work together to overcome the dark side of the US that is not hidden and sometimes even rises to the top of public view.
